The quote
"The higher prices do lead people to economise on housing, don’t they? Kids don’t move out of home because the rent is too expensive, or you decide to get a flatmate or a housemate. That's the price mechanism at work." – RBA Governor Philip Lowe speaking at Senate Estimates on Wednesday about the rental crisis.

Australians aged 18-35 will be able to apply for a three-year working holiday in the United Kingdom from the end of January next year. They can currently only apply for up to two years.
It comes as a free trade agreement between Australia and the UK, which was signed in 2021, comes into effect on Wednesday.
The details:
Currently, working holiday visas allow travellers aged 18-30 to live in the UK for up to two years.
Under the new rules, the cut-off age will be lifted to 35, and it will be three years instead of two.
These new visa rules will come into effect from the end of January next year. Those on current visas will be able to extend their stay for a third year.
What about for Brits in Australia?
The same new rules will also exist for British travellers in Australia – with the visas extended from two to three years and the age cut-off lifted to 35.
The new deal also removes the requirement for young people to work on a farm to use this visa to live and work in Australia.

Roger Cook will become the new Premier of Western Australia following the resignation of Mark McGowan on Monday.
McGowan is expected to leave Parliament by the end of this week, which will trigger a by-election in his seat of Rockingham.
Background:
Cook, who is from the Labor Party, has been WA's Deputy Premier since 2017.
He has also served as Health Minister, and was a pivotal figure in the state's management of the COVID-19 pandemic. This included closing off the state from the rest of Australia for almost two years to limit the spread of the virus.
Cook has held a variety of other portfolios, including Trade and Tourism. He also served as the Opposition Deputy Leader from 2008 to 2017.
Taking the top job:
Following McGowan's resignation, Cook won the leadership race after his key rival, Amber-Jade Sanderson, dropped out.
Sanderson is serving as Health Minister and has previously led the environment, climate and commerce portfolios.
Cook’s government:
Cook will inherit a government that is largely popular.
His government has 53 of the 59 Lower House seats in Parliament and also has a majority in the Upper House.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti is expected to be named as Cook's deputy. She also challenged for the leadership, but withdrew earlier in the week.

Jeremy Strong, who plays Kendall Roy, has spoken about how he tried a different ending for Kendall in the final scene, when he is gazing over a river.
Strong said he tried a scene where he jumped into the water.
“The water was calling to me,” he said in an interview with Vanity Fair. “I tried to go into the water after we cut – I got up from that bench and went as fast as I could over the barrier and onto the pilings, and the actor playing Colin [Scott Nicholson] raced over.
“I didn’t know I was gonna do that, and he didn’t know, but he raced over and stopped me. I don’t know whether in that moment I felt that Kendall just wanted to die – I think he did – or if he wanted to be saved by essentially a proxy of his father.”
Strong has denied that he is a method actor (meaning you stay in character even after the cameras stop rolling) but has said that his acting style is “to clear away anything—anything—that is not the character and the circumstances of the scene”.
